Let's face it—we've all had those days when life feels like it’s completely unraveling, and you just want to scream at the top of your lungs. Well, turns out even the incredible Jada Pinkett Smith has been there, too. In an eye-opening moment, the actress revealed that she’s experienced nervous breakdowns in the past, though at the time, she didn’t even realize that’s what they were called. What Jada did know was that she needed help, and fast.
During an upcoming episode of her popular show, Red Table Talk, Jada shared how those breakdowns felt like something beyond her control. “It's like when you're drowning in your emotions, your thoughts, and you feel like you're losing your grip on reality,” she explained. “Back then, I didn't even know it was what people call a nervous breakdown. I just knew I was spiraling, and I had to do something about it.”

Mom Knows Best: Adrienne Banfield-Jones Weighs In
Jada's mom, Adrienne Banfield-Jones, who’s a regular guest on Red Table Talk, understood her daughter's experience completely. “I get it. Those moments when you feel like you're losing yourself—they’re real,” Adrienne said, offering her support. It’s clear that family bonds run deep here, and Adrienne’s empathy only highlights the importance of having a supportive network during tough times.
Willow Smith's Battle with Mental Health
Willow Smith, Jada’s 18-year-old daughter, has also been open about her own struggles with mental health. In a previous episode of Red Table Talk, Willow revealed that she went through a dark period after the success of her hit song "Whip My Hair." “I stopped singing lessons, and I was in this weird gray area, questioning who I was and whether I had any purpose beyond that,” Willow shared. “I started harming myself, cutting, and doing things that didn’t make sense to anyone, including me.”

“What? When were you cutting yourself?” Jada asked Willow, clearly taken aback. “I didn’t see that part. Cutting yourself where?” Willow replied honestly, “On my wrist. You can barely see it now, but it’s still there. I lost my mind for a little while, but I never talk about it because it was such a brief, strange moment in my life. You’ve got to pull yourself out of it, though.” We can’t help but admire both Jada and Willow for being so open about their mental health journeys. Their courage is truly inspiring.
