Let's talk about a moment of grace and reflection. Michelle Obama, the former first lady, has been hitting the road hard promoting her memoir Becoming, which has officially become the best-selling book of 2018. We've heard some incredible stories from her tour, like her tales of sneaking out of the White House, and we even got a surprise visit from her husband, Barack Obama. But you know what they say—sometimes life calls for a pause. And that’s exactly what Michelle decided to do. She’s canceling her tour to attend the funeral of former President George H.W. Bush.
A Tribute to a Remarkable Leader
Michelle shared a heartfelt moment from the past, posting a throwback photo on her Instagram. It shows her planting a kiss on George H.W. Bush’s cheek in the Oval Office. Her caption was just as sweet. She wrote, “As a public servant, father, and grandfather, President George H.W. Bush was an extraordinary example for us all. His spirit of service and decency will be missed by many, including our family.” She went on to say, “I hope his memory will be a guiding light for our country and those around the world.”

Putting the Book Tour on Hold
At just 54 years old, Michelle made the decision to inform her fans through Twitter that her upcoming book tour stops in Paris and Berlin would need to be canceled so she could honor George H.W. Bush. She wrote, “It’s important to me to join the Bush family in celebrating President George H.W. Bush’s exemplary life.” She continued, “This will unfortunately preclude my visits to Paris and Berlin. I’ve been deeply touched by the enthusiasm for my memoir, and I’m working to reschedule my trip for next year.”
