Sally Field Talks About Her Future In Acting And Her Reflections On Burt Reynolds

Sally Field's Grandchildren: Get to Know the Star's Family

Let me tell you a story about Sally Field. She’s been out there promoting her memoir, In Pieces, which is doing incredibly well. This book dives deep into her life, from the secrets behind Steel Magnolias to her unforgettable Oscar speech, and even her relationship with Burt Reynolds. Sally recently spoke at the New Roads School in Santa Monica, California, where she shared her thoughts on whether or not we’ll see her acting again in the future.

Now, Sally Field is 72 years old, and she had some interesting things to say when asked what’s next for her. "This isn’t my swan song!" she declared with a laugh. "I didn’t write this book [In Pieces] thinking it was my grand exit from the spotlight. I didn’t mean to make fun of you, but everyone laughed, so it was worth it!" The Oscar-winning actress continued, "Right now, I’m finding it harder and harder for projects to pull me out of my comfort zone and make me want to dive back into that world again. But acting will always be my lifeline. It's something that has kept me alive since I was a kid. Without it, I wouldn’t have survived."

“It’s something that connects me, not just to you, but more importantly, to myself,” Sally added. “But I will continue to act, I hope. Like every other actor, I never know what the future holds. Maybe, maybe not. But I’ve found another love. That’s a big deal to me. I’ve always struggled to find partners who have passions outside of just me or my work. Certainly, my children have been a huge part of my life, and they’ve given me a different kind of love and fulfillment.”

    Sally Reflects on Burt Reynolds

When Closer Weekly asked Sally if her thoughts about Burt Reynolds had evolved while writing In Pieces and after his passing, she opened up about her feelings. "I don’t think my thoughts have changed much since his passing. They’ve evolved over the years," Sally explained. "I hadn’t seen him in about 30 years. He was an important part of my life for a long time, and he was a huge catalyst for me in many ways. I think I was probably the same for him. He was such a colorful guy! You’ll have to read the book to understand fully. But certainly, he will always hold a special place in my heart, not just because of our history, but because of the impact he had on me."

“And selfishly, I’m glad he didn’t get a chance to read my book. He passed away just four days before it was released. It’s almost like fate was stepping in, either for me or for him. It would have hurt him, and I never wanted to hurt him more than I already had, if I had. But the world had already done enough damage. The press would have loved to get their hands on it and twist it around. Now, I’m not saying anything negative about the press, but celebrity journalism is a different beast altogether!”
