Picture this: Sandra Bullock, the beloved Hollywood star, revealing that if she had her way, she would’ve started her family much earlier in life. In an exclusive chat with ET at the Bird Box premiere in New York City on December 17, Sandra said, “If I had my way, I would’ve been pregnant or knocked up at 17.” She went on to explain, “I had this deep desire to become a mom at a very young age. The maternal drive was always there, tugging at me.”
Moments from Sandra’s Journey to Motherhood
But life had other plans. Sandra, who is now 54, admitted that her mom played a pivotal role in shaping her journey. “My mother knew how much I wanted to be a mom, and she made sure I stayed under her watchful eye,” Sandra explained with a smile. And while Sandra might not have become a mom in her teens, she’s now a proud mother to two beautiful children, Louis, 8, and Laila, 6, whom she adopted. Not only does Sandra embrace the role of motherhood in real life, but she also embodies it in her latest hit movie, Bird Box. In the film, she plays the role of a mom to two young children navigating a world under attack by an unseen evil in a post-apocalyptic setting.
A Terrifying Movie with a Heartwarming Set
Now, you might think that working on such a dark and intense movie would be a daunting experience, but Sandra shared that the set was anything but grim. In fact, she described it as “extremely fun.” One of the highlights for Sandra was having her own kids, Louis and Laila, join her on set. They got to play and have fun while mom was hard at work. “It was like a playground for them,” Sandra reminisced. “LEGOs was a big hit, and they also loved playing tag and catch. When you’ve got two little bundles of energy, there are only so many things they’re interested in, and all of those things happened right there on set.”

Sandra’s Gratitude for Family-Friendly Work Environments
Sandra expressed her immense gratitude for being able to bring her kids to work. “How many people get the chance to bring their kids to work and have it be not just accepted but celebrated?” she mused. “Every set I’ve worked on has this welcoming and safe vibe for families. It’s truly something special.” Sandra’s protective instincts toward her children were on full display when she confessed to KTLA 5 Morning News that she tends to be “neurotic” when it comes to her kids. “I’m constantly afraid for their safety, and I do everything in my power to protect these two beautiful children I’ve been blessed to raise,” she said. And if you ask me, Sandra, you’re doing an incredible job!
