Well, folks, it looks like the Cumberbatch family is about to get a little bigger! Benedict Cumberbatch and his wife, Sophie Hunter, are expecting their third child. The couple made a stylish appearance at the 2018 Emmys on Monday, Sept. 17, where Sophie, looking radiant in a bright yellow gown, subtly revealed her growing baby bump. Let’s just say, her bump did all the talking!
A Growing Family
While Benedict and Sophie haven’t officially announced the news, Sophie’s pregnancy was evident during their red carpet stroll. The beloved couple, who tied the knot on Valentine’s Day in 2015 after meeting in 2009, are already proud parents to two adorable boys—Christopher, 3, and Hal, 1. Now, they’re gearing up to welcome another bundle of joy into their lives. It’s a heartwarming chapter for this talented pair!
How Parenthood Has Changed Benedict
In a candid interview, Benedict opened up about how becoming a father has positively influenced his career. He shared with Metro, “Lots of people, especially women, get told, ‘Oh, parenthood is really going to affect your career’—and it does, but for the better, I think.” He went on to explain, “I know I’m in a very privileged position in my career, but I think everyone, even if they’re in a challenging time in their life, draws strength from their children. They are your inspiration. It adds to your work, it never takes away.”

Family-Friendly Projects on the Horizon
Benedict also mentioned that he’s eager to take on more family-friendly projects so his kids can enjoy his work. “I want them to know what I do for a living, and I can’t always because of the certification of my films,” he admitted. “We’ll all be a lot older by the time they get to see them, but yes, I would definitely like to do some child-friendly work in the future. I’ve done a bit, but there might be a little bit more now.” It’s clear Benedict is not only a dedicated actor but also a devoted dad who wants his children to understand and appreciate his craft.
Benedict was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie for his role in Patrick Melrose. Although he didn’t win that night, he expressed gratitude for the nomination. “I was in a car going home from East London where we’re doing some filming for a show about Brexit, and my phone just blew,” he recalled in an interview with the LA Times. “I thought, ‘Whoa, what’s going on here, is there a malfunction?’ But then I saw, ‘Congratulations, huge love,’ and what not, and that’s how I found out. It was quite lovely.” With a new baby on the way, fans can’t wait to see what’s next for this incredible family.
