Hey there! Guess what? Maura Tierney, the beloved star of The Affair, is on the road to recovery after a pretty scary bike accident. TMZ broke the news on Monday, August 27, revealing that Maura was rushed to the emergency room after a car struck her back tire while she was cycling through Marina del Rey. Now, that’s a wild ride, right?
TMZ shared some pretty intense photos of Maura lying on the ground, then later in a wheelchair with a neck brace following the collision. According to reports, Maura, who's no stranger to the ER herself (thanks to her role in the show ER), told the EMTs she was experiencing back pain from the incident. Luckily, it seems like the driver wasn't under the influence of drugs or alcohol. It was just one of those unfortunate accidents that happen sometimes.
Fast forward to later that same day, and we've got some good news. People confirmed that Maura left the hospital and is doing well. Her rep shared a statement saying, "Maura has been released from the hospital with no major injuries. Thank you to everyone who has reached out with their concern." Whew, that’s a relief, isn’t it?

This recent hospital visit brings back memories for Maura, who bravely opened up about her breast cancer diagnosis back in 2009. In a candid interview with People in 2012, she described the moment she learned about her diagnosis as "the most surreal, crazy moment." She admitted, "Of course I wouldn’t know that by looking at it! I remember thinking, ‘I’m so young. This can’t be happening.’"
At just 44 years old and with no family history of the disease, Maura faced her diagnosis with courage. "I wasn’t angry and never said, ‘Why me?’ But I was scared," she revealed. "My prognosis is good, but I knock on wood." Maura endured a skin-sparing mastectomy and three weeks of chemotherapy, finishing her treatment in 2010.
Reflecting on her battle, she shared, "It’s not fun, but it’s not as scary as I thought. I was able to continue running, riding my bike, and hiking, so it was endurable." It's truly inspiring to see Maura overcoming such challenges and now recovering from her recent bike accident. We’re so relieved and grateful to hear she’s doing well today!
