When Roseanne returned to ABC last season, it was nothing short of a cultural phenomenon. From the very first episode, it felt like we were in for a ride that would last for years. Then, out of nowhere, Roseanne Barr tweeted something that many found racist, and the network didn’t waste a second in pulling the plug. That seemed like the end of the road for one of TV’s most beloved families. But hold onto your hats, because whispers started circulating about a spin-off—without Roseanne. And now, The Conners is officially in production, with a teaser that’s already got fans buzzing!
First Look at the New Show: What’s Next for the Conners?
In a 15-second teaser that’s as clever as it is nostalgic, we’re taken back to the heart of the Conners' world: their living room. That iconic, ugly couch takes center stage as the camera zooms in to the sound of Carly Simon’s “Anticipation.” The screen flashes with the question, “What’s next?” before revealing the title, The Conners, and the premiere date: Tuesday, October 16, at 8/7c. It’s short, sweet, and leaves you wanting more.

Meet the Familiar Faces Returning for the Spin-Off
Just hours before the teaser dropped, fans got a first look at the cast in a group photo from the set. The lineup is as comforting as a warm bowl of soup on a cold day. From left to right, we’ve got Sara Gilbert, who plays Darlene Conner and doubles as an executive producer, Jayden Rey as Mary Conner, Michael Fishman as D.J. Conner, Ames McNamara as Mark Conner-Healy, John Goodman as Dan Conner, Laurie Metcalf as Jackie Harris, Lecy Goranson as Becky Conner, and Emma Kenney as Harris Conner-Healy. It’s like stepping back into the Conners’ world, minus one very controversial figure.
ABC released a statement saying, “The Conners’ stories are all about finding common ground through conversation, laughter, and love. This spin-off will continue to tackle the same contemporary issues that made the show resonate with audiences 30 years ago—and still do today.”

A Message From the Cast: Why They’re Back
In a heartfelt statement, cast members John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson, and Michael Fishman shared their excitement about returning to the screen. They said, “We’ve been overwhelmed by the incredible support from our fans, and it’s clear that these characters have a special place not just in our hearts, but in the hearts and homes of our audience. Last season, we all came back because we wanted to tell stories about the challenges facing a working-class family today. We’re thrilled to have the chance to return with the cast and crew to continue sharing those stories through love and laughter.”
In an interview, John Goodman revealed that Roseanne Barr had to officially sign away her rights to the show for this spin-off to happen—no doubt walking away with a nice paycheck. As for the character of Roseanne, Goodman hinted that she’ll have passed away off-screen between shows. Despite the absence of the matriarch, the rest of the cast seems fully committed to making this new version work, and fans are undoubtedly curious to see if they can pull it off.
