Angela Bassett: A Star on the Rise, Both Personally and Professionally
Actress Angela Bassett is having a moment—and it’s one worth celebrating. The multi-talented star is stepping into the limelight with her role as CIA Director in the highly anticipated blockbuster, Mission: Impossible — Fallout, which hits theaters on July 27. But that’s not all—her Fox drama 9-1-1 has been greenlit for a second season, proving her staying power in the entertainment industry. And if that wasn’t enough, she’ll soon mark her 60th birthday on August 16, a testament to a career filled with iconic performances and lasting impact.
But Angela isn’t one to wait around for reasons to celebrate. On July 4th, she threw a pre-birthday bash at NYC’s Liquor Lab, surrounded by 40 of her closest friends and loved ones. Among the attendees were her beloved husband, Courtney B. Vance—best known for his unforgettable portrayal of Johnnie Cochran in American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson—and fellow actresses Felicity Huffman and Tiffany Haddish. It was a night to remember, filled with laughter, joy, and a little bit of Hollywood glamour.

Throwing the Ultimate Party: Drinks, Food, and Movie-Inspired Fun
The bash was nothing short of spectacular, with drinks named after some of Angela’s most iconic films, including Strange Days and How Stella Got Her Groove Back. The menu was catered by Hill Country Barbecue Market, ensuring guests were treated to a delicious spread. “Throughout the night, people kept on saying, ‘Angela throws the best parties!’” an insider exclusively told Closer Weekly. It’s clear that Angela knows how to bring people together, creating an atmosphere of warmth and celebration.
Family First: The Heart of Angela’s Success
While Angela’s career achievements are remarkable, she credits her family as her greatest accomplishment. Speaking to Closer, Angela opened up about her 12-year-old twins, son Slater and daughter Bronwyn. “Seeing them grow up beautifully and respectfully is an amazing thing to watch,” she shared. “They are delightful individuals, and they make me so proud.” It’s evident that Angela values her role as a mother just as much as her role as an actress, and her family remains at the center of her life.

There’s no doubt that Slater and Bronwyn are equally proud of their mom, who continues to inspire with her work ethic and dedication to her craft. After making waves in this year’s smash hit Black Panther, Angela shows no signs of slowing down. “You can only hope to keep moving forward, growing, and doing better—there’s no point in looking back,” she’s said. “I have no regrets, and I feel as if there’s still a great deal for me to learn.” Her passion for her work is evident, and it’s this drive that keeps her at the top of her game.
