Why Queen Elizabeth Seems to Be Closer to Meghan Markle Than Kate Middleton
It’s fascinating to observe how relationships within the royal family evolve. For some reason, Queen Elizabeth’s connection with Meghan Markle appears to be progressing at a much quicker pace than her relationship with Kate Middleton, her other well-known granddaughter-in-law. Is it all about timing? Did Kate’s integration into the family pave the way for outsiders like Meghan? Or has Meghan simply managed to win over the heart of the British monarch more quickly? Let’s dive into this intriguing royal dynamic.
Take, for instance, the upcoming joint engagement between Elizabeth and Meghan on June 14. This event will take place just days after Meghan’s return from her honeymoon. The two royals are set to head to Chester, England, where they’ll open the Storyhouse cultural center and enjoy lunch with Lord and Lady Mayoress at the town hall. Interestingly, Yahoo! Lifestyle pointed out that Kate wasn’t invited on a personal trip with the Queen until nearly a year after marrying Prince William.

Let’s not forget Kate’s first significant outing with the Queen. It happened during the kickoff of the Diamond Jubilee tour. In the documentary Our Queen at 90, Kate shared her experience: “The most memorable engagement for me was an away-day to Leicester. I went without William, so I was rather apprehensive about that… [Elizabeth] was very supportive. The fact she took the time to make sure that I was happy and looked after for that particular occasion — which probably, in everything that she’s doing, is a very small element — shows just how caring she is, really.”
Meeting the Queen: A Comparison Between Kate and Meghan
Interestingly, Elizabeth met Meghan less than a year and a half after Meghan and Prince Harry began dating, during the Queen’s Christmas luncheon. In contrast, Kate didn’t meet the Queen until five years after starting a relationship with William, specifically at the wedding of Peter Phillips and Autumn Kelly.
Kate recounted her first meeting with the Queen in a 2010 interview with the UK Press Association: “It was amongst a lot of other guests, and she was very friendly.” William added, “She was very welcoming. She knew it was a big day, and everything was going on with Peter and Autumn. She wanted to meet Kate for a while, so it was very nice for her to come over and say hello and have a little chat.”
However, PopSugar reported that Kate and Elizabeth had previously shared the same space on multiple occasions without any interaction. Yahoo! noted that it’s possible Elizabeth was cautious about outsiders following Prince Charles’ tumultuous relationship with Princess Diana. But royal expert Kelly Lynch emphasized that Meghan isn’t receiving special treatment. “When Will and Kate got married, the Queen granted them a grace period to live as normally as possible,” she told the site.
Is the Queen Playing Favorites?
We don’t like to think that Queen Elizabeth is playing favorites, so we’ll assume this trend is just a coincidence. But let’s be honest, wouldn’t we all want to meet Meghan as soon as possible? There’s something about her charm that seems to captivate everyone she meets.
