Roseanne Barr Reflects On The Conners: A New Chapter Without Her

Roseanne Barr Has ‘Mixed Emotions’ About ABC Airing ‘The Conners’ | Us

Let me tell you a story about one of the most unexpected twists in TV history. After Roseanne Barr's infamous tweet that led to ABC canceling the reboot of Roseanne, the network decided to bring back the show under a new name: The Conners. The series is set to premiere this fall, and it’s shaping up to be quite the conversation starter. Without Roseanne herself, the cast and crew are stepping into uncharted territory, and the world is watching with bated breath.

In a heartfelt and candid interview with Rabbi Shmuley Boteach at NYC’s Stand Up NY comedy club on July 26, Roseanne Barr, now 65, opened up about her feelings regarding the continuation of the show without her. Her emotions were raw, and her words carried the weight of a woman reflecting on her legacy and the choices that led her here.

Roseanne’s Thoughts on the Show Moving Forward: “Well, it’s going to be fascinating to see a group of privileged folks who grew up in Hollywood writing for the working class. That’s going to be an interesting dynamic to watch unfold. But honestly, I don’t wish ill on anyone. I’m not the type of person who delights in others’ suffering or destruction. I’ve been through enough myself. I wouldn’t wish this kind of pain on anyone,” Roseanne shared during the Barr’D: An Intimate Evening With Roseanne Barr event.

On October 16, The Conners will premiere on ABC, with all of Roseanne’s former co-stars returning: John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson, and Michael Fishman. However, the show will move forward without its titular star. ABC also asked Roseanne to relinquish her rights to the series’ profits, marking a significant shift in her relationship with the show.

    Roseanne’s Reflections on Her Castmates

Roseanne went on to express her deep connection with the cast, acknowledging the camaraderie that defined their time together. “I think they’ve lost a good friend. When my friends are in trouble, I don’t pile on. I support them. But Hollywood can be a scary place. I understand why they felt the need to distance themselves. It’s how the industry works,” she confessed during her chat with Rabbi Shmuley.

Her words revealed a mix of understanding and sadness. She clearly missed the collaborative spirit that once defined their work together. It’s not just about the show; it’s about the bonds formed over years of shared experiences.

Roseanne admitted to feeling deeply regretful about the tweet that sparked the controversy. “I felt terrible, absolutely terrible, after that tweet. People thought I said something that I didn’t mean to say—or at least, not in the way it was interpreted. At the height of my fame, I couldn’t believe I’d say something so foolish. I was caught in a whirlwind of confusion—what they were doing was wrong, but I realized I had made a mistake too,” she shared with Rabbi Shmuley.

She continued, “There were so many layers to that feeling of guilt and confusion. I had to take a step back, reflect deeply, and seek guidance from a higher power. I needed God’s help to make sense of it all because I was lost. I couldn’t figure out why this happened or why it was interpreted the way it was. It was terrifying, depressing, and heart-wrenching. My life’s work, the people I loved and considered family—it all felt like it was crumbling around me.”

Despite the challenges, Roseanne found solace in the support of her fans and faith. “I lived through it, and it’s been two months now. God has shown me immense love, and so have the people around me. That kind of love is incredibly healing. It helps mend the wounds of what happened,” she said, her voice filled with gratitude.
