Roseanne Barr Speaks Out After Career-Ending Tweet: What She Said

Let’s talk about Roseanne Barr. It’s been a couple of months since that infamous tweet that not only ended her iconic sitcom, Roseanne, but also pretty much derailed her entire career. Now, the actress is finally opening up about the whole mess in her first televised interview since the incident. She initially canceled the interview, but eventually decided to address the elephant in the room head-on.

What Roseanne Had to Say

On July 26, Roseanne sat down with Sean Hannity on Fox News Channel to talk about the tweet that cost her everything. “I made a mistake, obviously,” she admitted. “It cost me everything—my life’s work. I made a mistake and I’ve paid the price for it.” Her words were straightforward and, in a way, heartfelt. This wasn’t just about losing a show; it was about losing her legacy.

Back in late May, Roseanne sent out a tweet comparing Barack Obama’s former aide, Valerie Jarrett, to an ape. In her interview with Hannity, she tried to explain her thought process behind the controversial post. “That was a political tweet,” Roseanne insisted. “It was about asking for accountability from the previous administration regarding the Iran deal, which Valerie Jarrett played a role in. That’s what was on my mind at the time.”

But the backlash was swift and severe. Roseanne was stunned when people started calling the tweet racist. “The first thing I felt was shock,” she admitted. “I couldn’t believe they were calling it racial when it was meant to be political. That was a tough pill to swallow. Then everyone started labeling me as a racist, which is one of the worst things you can call a Jewish person, especially someone like me who grew up with Holocaust survivors. It really hit home.”

    Roseanne’s Apology and Legacy

Roseanne has apologized multiple times for her actions, and she’s been open about her concerns for the rest of the Roseanne cast. “I walked away from the show, even though I had a contract that protected me,” she revealed. “Under my contract, I had 24 hours to correct any mistakes. But I didn’t want anyone else to lose their jobs because of me. So, I walked away.” Thankfully, the show found a way to continue without her. A spin-off titled The Conners is set to air on ABC in October.

  • Even though the new series will go on without her, Roseanne isn’t ruling out a return to TV someday. When asked if she’d ever appear on screen again, she joked, “Only if there’s nudity.” It’s good to see her finding some humor in the situation, even if it’s a little self-deprecating.
