Changes Are Coming to 'Last Man Standing'

Hey there, fans of 'Last Man Standing.' You might have noticed some familiar faces missing in the reboot. Deadline has confirmed that Molly Ephraim, who plays Mandy Baxter, and Flynn Morrison, who plays Boyd Baxter — Tim Allen's on-screen daughter and grandson — won't be part of the revival. While the reasons behind their departure aren't clear yet, one thing's for sure: change is in the air. But hey, change can be good, right?

For those who don’t know, 'Last Man Standing' was canceled by ABC last year, but thankfully, FOX picked it up in May 2018. This marks the show’s seventh season, and according to Variety, the sitcom has consistently performed well with strong ratings in the 18-49 demographic. So, even with some cast changes, it seems like the show has plenty of life left in it.

Tim Allen, the heart and soul of 'Last Man Standing,' is thrilled about what’s to come. “I’m excited because we have so much left in our tank,” Tim told Closer. “There were a lot of stories we hadn’t gotten to yet.” Not only is Tim excited about exploring new storylines, but he’s also eager to tackle more serious issues in the reboot. For instance, his character owns a sporting goods store that sells firearms, so expect some meaningful conversations around gun ownership. This could make for some powerful and thought-provoking episodes.

    FOX Executives Weigh In

Gary Newman and Dana Walden, chairmen and CEOs of Fox Television Group, shared their thoughts in a statement. “'Last Man Standing' ended too soon, and the outcry from the fans has been deafening,” they wrote. “We’ve wanted to put the show back together since its final taping a year ago, and Tim never gave up hope either. Thanks to its millions of devoted viewers and the irrepressible Tim Allen, we haven’t seen the last of 'Last Man Standing.'”

It's bittersweet seeing original cast members leave, but change is a part of life. The reboot, set to premiere this fall, is sure to be a hit with fans. When asked why the show was canceled, ABC entertainment president Channing Dungey explained, “That’s the job. I canceled 'Last Man Standing' for the same business and scheduling reasons that I canceled 'Dr. Ken,' 'The Real O’Neals,' 'The Catch,' and 'American Crime.' And 'Last Man Standing' was a challenging one for me because it was a steady performer in the ratings, but once we made the decision not to continue with comedies on Fridays, that was where we landed.”
