In the wake of the devastating Las Vegas shooting, Celine Dion made the bold decision to proceed with her show. Stepping onto the stage at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace on Tuesday, October 3, the legendary singer delivered an emotional address to her audience, announcing that all proceeds from that evening’s performance would be donated to the families of those who lost their lives in the tragic event.
Why Celine Dion Chose to Perform
“The reason I chose to go ahead with this show so soon after the tragedy goes beyond just singing,” Celine shared with the audience, her voice filled with emotion. “It’s about showing love and support for everyone affected by this senseless act. On Sunday, we lost far too many beautiful, innocent souls, and many are still suffering. But tonight, we’re here to let these families know that we’re standing by them, and we’ll help them through this unimaginable loss.”

Celine continued, “They’re going to need so much love, emotional support, and financial assistance. So, I want you to know that all the proceeds from tonight’s show are being donated to the victims’ families in your name.” Her heartfelt words were met with cheers and a standing ovation from the audience. She also dedicated the evening’s performance to the victims, their families, the brave first responders, doctors, nurses, and all the heroes who stepped up during the crisis.
Remembering the Tragedy
On Sunday, October 1, a gunman opened fire on a crowd of 22,000 people attending the Route 91 Harvest country music festival on the Las Vegas Strip. Fifty-nine people were killed, and more than 500 were injured in what has become the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history. In the days following the tragedy, Celine took to Instagram to honor those who were lost and their loved ones. “Praying for all the innocent victims and their families in Las Vegas,” the 49-year-old superstar wrote. While Celine decided to continue her Caesars Palace residency, fellow Las Vegas performer Jennifer Lopez announced on October 2 that she would be postponing her upcoming shows at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino due to the shooting.
Jennifer Lopez’s Response
“Jennifer is deeply saddened by the senseless tragedy that unfolded,” a representative for the singer stated to People. “Her thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families.” J.Lo’s concerts scheduled for October 3, 6, and 7 will be rescheduled for a future date, her spokesperson confirmed.

Celine’s Las Vegas residency began in March 2003 with the show A New Day.... When that production ended in December 2007, the mother of three introduced her second (and ongoing) show, Celine. To date, Celine holds the record for the longest-running residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, having performed over 1,110 concerts there. Her contract with the resort extends through 2019.
