Man, it’s tough to hear! During Monday night’s episode of Dancing with the Stars, former child star Frankie Muniz shared his deeply personal struggles with extreme memory loss, multiple concussions, and even mini-strokes. The theme of the night was "The Most Memorable Year," which made Frankie’s story hit especially hard. This isn’t just about forgetting where you left your keys—it’s about losing pieces of who you are.
Frankie, best known for his role as Louis “Luis” Rey on Malcolm in the Middle, opened up about how these challenges have affected him. In a rehearsal video, he said, “It makes me a little sad. Things pop back into my mind that I should have remembered, but I didn’t. It’s like trying to piece together a puzzle, but some of the pieces are missing.” That’s heavy stuff, right?
Support from a TV Dad Turned Real-Life Friend
One of the most touching moments came when Bryan Cranston, who played Frankie’s TV dad on Malcolm in the Middle for six years, chimed in to support his former co-star. Bryan explained that even though Frankie may not remember certain experiences, they are still part of his journey. “They are still his experiences,” Bryan said. “It will be my job to remind him of them. I’ll say, ‘Remember this? Remember that on Malcolm? What a life for you!’”

Bryan went on to talk about Frankie’s impressive career trajectory. “Frankie was a TV star, then he became a race car driver, and a drummer in a rock band. I once joked with him, ‘What’s next, becoming an astronaut?’ He’s done all the things professionally that most people only dream about. And yet, here he is, dealing with this incredible challenge.”

Opening Up About His Condition
Later in the episode, Frankie opened up further to reporters about his condition. He admitted, “It’s something I’ve never really talked about publicly. For me, it’s just part of my life, but we were talking about Malcolm and how it all started, and I realized I don’t really have any memories of being on the show. My memory of the show comes from watching the episodes later.” Can you imagine that? Not remembering such a huge part of your life?
Frankie went on to explain how this has affected other areas of his life. “Over the past 10 years, my mom will bring up things like trips we went on or big events, and they’re completely new to me. I don’t know what the cause is. I haven’t looked into it deeply because I thought it was just how my brain worked. I assumed it was normal. But now, I realize I shouldn’t have forgotten going to the Emmys when I was younger.”
How Does Frankie Cope?
Frankie shared that his girlfriend, Paige Price, helps him cope by keeping a journal for him. “She writes down important things so I can look back and remember them,” he said. “But here’s the thing—I’m not really a doctor person. Every time I’ve gone to the doctor, they’ve basically told me I’m crazy. So, I’ve kind of given up on that front.”
Despite these challenges, Frankie continues to push forward with his life and career. He’s currently competing on Dancing with the Stars, and if there’s one thing we know about Frankie, it’s that he’s resilient. This guy has faced so much, and yet, he keeps going.
