For over three decades, John Larroquette has been a household name, captivating audiences with his sharp wit and unforgettable performances. From his iconic role as Dan Fielding on Night Court, which earned him five Emmy Awards, to his recent work on Me, Myself & I, John has consistently delivered memorable characters. But there's so much more to this talented actor than what meets the eye. In an exclusive interview with Closer Weekly, John opens up about his life, his journey, and the roles that truly matter to him.

From Stage to Screen: The Journey of John Larroquette

John Larroquette's career is nothing short of remarkable. Growing up as an only child to a divorced mother, he faced challenges that many of us can only imagine. Yet, through it all, he found his passion for acting and went on to become one of the most celebrated actors in television history. But fame and success didn't come without their struggles. John battled drug addiction and alcoholism during the tumultuous 1960s, experiences that shaped him into the person he is today. Despite these hardships, he persevered, finding strength in his faith and family.

The Role That Matters Most: Family

While John's career achievements are impressive, he reveals that his proudest role is being a devoted husband and father. Married for 42 years to his beloved wife, Elizabeth, John cherishes the life they've built together. Together, they have three children: Lisa, 47, Jonathan, 40, and Ben, 30. In the interview, John speaks candidly about the challenges of fatherhood, especially given his own upbringing without a father figure. "I grew up without a dad, raised primarily by women, such as my mother, grandmother, and aunt, so I came to fatherhood without any sort of owner's manual or instructions at all," he shares with Closer. "I took being a father very seriously. I love my children for eternity, try to help them as much as I can, and still allow them to be themselves."

"I don’t know what it’s like to have a father, and sometimes I want to talk to them about it, but they can’t be objective — I’m their father. I love them deeply."

A Birthday to Celebrate: Overcoming the Odds

As John approaches his 70th birthday on November 25, he acknowledges the journey that brought him here. Surviving the 1960s, battling addiction, and overcoming personal struggles, John is grateful for every day he gets to live. "The fact that I survived the '60s, my drug addiction and alcoholism, every birthday is like, ‘Hey! Way to go dude! You didn’t expect to get here, did you?’ And that’s the truth. I didn’t expect to get here," he confides.
