Raquel Welch Reveals Near-Death Experience During 'One Million Years B.C.' Filming

Let’s take a trip down memory lane, folks. Back in 1966, Raquel Welch unintentionally became one of Hollywood’s biggest sex symbols after starring in the iconic film, "One Million Years B.C." But guess what? The making of this blockbuster wasn't all sunshine and rainbows. Fifty years later, Raquel, now 77, revealed she almost didn’t make it out alive from that set!

“We were shooting miles away from civilization,” Raquel reminisced during an interview with Fox News. “There was a hotel down by the sea, near the base of a volcano, but I was up at the top where it was freezing cold. Believe it or not, it was snowing! Who would’ve thought a prehistoric flick would turn into a winter survival story?”

  • Now here’s the kicker—Raquel’s iconic costume in the movie wasn’t exactly made for harsh weather. It was, shall we say, *skimpy*. Couple that with the extreme cold, and you’ve got a recipe for disaster. “I ended up with tonsillitis so bad that I had to take so much penicillin that it almost killed me,” Raquel admitted. “I remember rushing back to the doctor’s office, practically racing against time. I jumped into the elevator, ran upstairs, and barely made it in time for them to administer an antidote. If they hadn’t acted fast, I might not be here today. It was a rough, rough shoot, folks. Brutal, honestly.”

Despite the challenges, Raquel’s performance in "One Million Years B.C." skyrocketed her to fame. “When I arrived in London after the filming, everyone knew who I was,” she added. “It was a whirlwind, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.”

From Iconic Role to Hollywood Star

In a heartfelt interview with Closer Weekly, Raquel opened up about the impact the role had on her career. “At the time, I didn’t see myself as being exploited,” she explained. “Sure, some of the publicity shots were sexy, but I didn’t feel overtly sexualized. I was just grateful for the opportunity.”

But fame came with its own set of challenges. “I was trying to break free from the 'sex symbol' label,” Raquel confided to Fox News. “I wanted to prove I was more than just a pretty face. It wasn’t easy. In fact, it was incredibly tough. But I never gave up, and eventually, I carved out a place for myself as a serious actress.”

And when it comes to regrets? Raquel says she has none. “I don’t dwell on the past,” she told Closer. “It’s impossible to keep up with who you used to be. You’ve got to keep moving forward, and I’m proud of where I am today.”
