“I remember being so bummed that I didn’t have any siblings growing up," Billie shared. "Even just having someone to witness life with me would’ve been amazing. Sometimes when crazy things were happening, I wanted someone to ask, ‘Is this just me?’ So, one year, I told my mom, ‘Hey, Mom, I want a sister.’ You know how kids ask for a puppy? Well, I asked for a sister.”

Turns out, Carrie Fisher wasn’t just hearing her daughter’s wish; she was determined to make it happen. Billie explained, “We actually tried to adopt. We went through the whole process—like, we did a home study and everything. But unfortunately, it didn’t work out. They said our home study wasn’t strong enough.” It’s a reminder of how much love and effort Carrie put into trying to give her daughter what she wanted most.

Her dad, Bryan Lourd, got remarried, and with that union came a delightful surprise: a nine-year-old little sister. “It’s incredible," Billie said with a smile. "She’s absolutely awesome. It’s like having a mini-me around. She’s kind of like my daughter too, which is the coolest thing ever.”

In a previous exclusive interview with Closer Weekly, one of Carrie’s close friends revealed that she often referred to Billie as her “best work.” This sentiment might explain why Carrie only ever had one child. “Carrie wasn’t the perfect mom, but in the last couple of years, her relationship with Billie became very solid,” the friend explained. “She told friends, ‘I grew up and so did Billie. She’s the best work I’ve ever produced.’”
