She emphasizes the importance of role models in Hollywood who can show young women that they can achieve greatness.
Camryn shares her excitement about her latest project, An American Girl Story: Summer Camp — Friends for Life, available on Amazon Prime Video. "Whenever I find a project that can inspire young girls to embrace their true, powerful selves, I jump at the chance," says the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning actress. "Girls have the potential to become anything they dream of, and I want to be a part of that journey." Camryn’s passion for empowering the next generation shines through in this heartfelt interview.

Camryn’s enthusiasm doesn’t stop at her work on screen. She travels across the country to teach young girls that they should live boldly, without apologies. "Girls should soar, not apologize for who they are," she insists. "We need role models on TV who don’t have limitations. I want every girl to feel the power within her and know they can achieve anything they set their minds to."
Why Representation Matters to Camryn
Camryn’s dedication to this cause stems from her own experiences. "I was the underdog for a long time," she reveals. "Being a chubby girl, people dismissed me quickly. I never felt seen or heard as much as others, whether it was other girls or even boys." Camryn recalls the early days of her career when representation was scarce. "When I started in television, there were just one or two girls who looked like me. I rarely saw myself portrayed positively on screen."
She shares a funny story from her first day on The Practice: "Someone handed me a doughnut as we introduced my character, Ellenor, alongside Dylan McDermott’s character. I was horrified! I thought, 'How can I introduce myself with a doughnut in my hand, especially next to Dylan McDermott?' It was a moment of self-consciousness, but it taught me the importance of breaking stereotypes and embracing who I am."

Despite these challenges, Camryn refused to let them define her. She built a successful career and didn’t shy away from pursuing her dreams in her personal life either. "I always knew I wanted to be a mom," she says. "I used to talk to my imaginary children all the time! As I got older, I realized if I didn’t act soon, I might miss my chance. So, I vowed to have a baby before turning 40. My son weighed 9.2 pounds at birth, and I joked about inducing him two days before my birthday. Of course, he was ready when he came, and now he’s 6’2” at 16!"
Life Lessons from Camryn
Camryn lives by a couple of mottos that guide her through life: "Don’t live your life with apology" and "The person with the most confidence wins." She also loves a poem by Marianne Williamson that reminds her, "It doesn’t pay to be less than who you are. You were put here to shine as brightly as possible." These words resonate deeply with her and fuel her mission to inspire young women everywhere.
