What to Expect from The Nutcracker and the Four Realms

The movie, titled The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, is based on E.T.A. Hoffmann’s 1861 story The Nutcracker and the Mouse King. Set during the holiday season, the story revolves around a young girl named Clara and her magical journey with her favorite toy, a nutcracker, to a fantastical kingdom filled with dolls. The tale is perhaps best known for its ballet adaptation, featuring a musical score by the legendary Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.

The release date for the film, which will be directed by Lasse Hallström, was announced at Disney’s D23 Expo. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie is set to hit theaters in November 2018, taking the spot originally reserved for the Mulan reboot. Disney also gave a sneak peek at the cinematography and set design during the D23 Expo. Linus Sandgren, the film’s Director of Production, recently won an Oscar for his work on La La Land, so expectations are high!
