  • Fran shared how years of suppressing the pain from a traumatic event in her past may have contributed to her later diagnosis with uterine cancer. "For many, many years, I didn't deal with the pain of being raped," she admitted. "When you hold onto that kind of emotional weight, it can manifest physically. In my case, it led to cancer. It's almost poetic, in a way, how the body chooses where to break down and create disease."

Here's Fran speaking at a 2015 Cancer Schmancer event, proving her commitment to turning pain into purpose.

The roots of Fran's trauma trace back to January 1985, when two armed robbers broke into the Los Angeles home she shared with her then-husband, Peter Marc Jacobson. In that harrowing ordeal, Fran was tragically raped, and Peter was physically attacked and tied up. "The whole experience was surreal," Peter recounted in his interview with Studio 10. "People talk about having guns in the house, but it wouldn't have helped. It could have made things worse."

Fast forward fifteen years, and Fran received a diagnosis that would change her life forever. In June 2000, she was diagnosed with uterine cancer. She underwent an immediate radical hysterectomy to treat the disease and, thankfully, didn't require any further treatments after the surgery.

    Turning Pain Into Purpose

Through her journey, Fran has discovered a powerful way to move forward: turning her pain into purpose. "You're never the same after trauma," she said. "But you can take that new reality and forge ahead with it. That's what I've always done." In 2007, Fran founded her non-profit organization, Cancer Schmancer, which is dedicated to educating women about early cancer diagnosis and empowering them to take control of their health.
