Get ready to laugh out loud! On a Tuesday, July 25 episode of the Today show, Jenna Bush Hager decided to have some fun with her co-anchor, Al Roker. Together, they pulled off an unforgettable prank call to Jenna's mom, none other than the former First Lady, Laura Bush. Talk about family bonding with a twist!
Now, let me set the scene for you. Jenna, who is 35 and was a teenager when her dad, George W. Bush, became the 43rd President of the United States in 2000, decided it was time to revisit her rebellious teenage years. She roped in Al, who's 62, to help her out. They dialed up the 70-year-old Laura Bush but, of course, they didn't want to reveal their identities. Jenna, being the clever one, suggested they use *67 to block their caller ID. It was a classic teenage move!

So here's what happened: Al, in his best over-the-top Southern accent, delivered the line of the century. "Yes, hi, we’re doing a random survey right now, checking out if your refrigerator is running correctly," he said, with pure comedic intent. He then asked the question that would surely confuse anyone: "Is your refrigerator running, ma’am?"
The Reaction You’d Expect from a Former First Lady
Let’s give it up for Laura Bush because she didn’t miss a beat. Rather than playing along with Al’s absurd question, she promptly hung up the phone. Can you blame her? Who wouldn’t hang up on a random call like that? Despite their initial failure, Al and Jenna weren’t ready to give up just yet. They decided to try again, this time with Jenna taking the lead. But it didn’t take long for Laura to recognize her daughter’s voice on the other end of the line.
Mom Knows Best
“Jenna, will you quit being so silly,” Laura said, clearly catching on to the prank. Al, trying to deflect the blame, quickly chimed in, “She made me do that, Mrs. Bush! She made me do that!” Later, Al admitted that this was the first time in his life that he had ever prank-called a first lady. Can you imagine the story he has to tell now?

This funny moment with her mom comes more than a month after Jenna shared a heartfelt message with her own daughters, Margaret, who’s 4, and Poppy, who’s 23 months old, during a touching segment on Today. It’s clear that Jenna has a way of balancing humor with sincerity.
“To my darling girls, Mila and Poppy, I have never seen anything more beautiful than the two of you. There will be times when you look in the mirror and you won’t always like what you see,” Jenna said, her voice filled with emotion. “But if Daddy and I do our jobs right, you will always look in the mirror and like who you see. So my precious babies, always remember that just by being authentically you, you are more than enough. I adore you, my beauties. Mom.”
