In an interview with NPR, author Maria Semple opened up about the inspiration behind the book. "I wanted to explore the intersection we find ourselves in during middle-age marriage," she explained. "Eleanor realizes that her marriage has been running on autopilot. If it keeps going this way, they'll end up as strangers in a partnership focused solely on raising their child. Their lives have become a series of schedules and emails, where he might go to jazz concerts alone while she drifts further into her own thoughts. This book is about deciding to dig deep and work harder at love—not mistaking youthful passion for the kind of commitment that keeps a relationship alive."

Julia isn't just starring in Today Will Be Different; she's also producing the series. Her recent film credits include Mother's Day and Money Monster, and she'll next be seen in the upcoming family drama Wonder, based on the R.J. Palacio novel of the same name. With her involvement, this series is shaping up to be a must-watch event.
Today Will Be Different is expected to follow in the footsteps of HBO's critically acclaimed limited series Big Little Lies, starring heavyweights like Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Alexander Skarsgard, and Laura Dern. Fans of smart, character-driven storytelling are already buzzing with excitement.
As of now, HBO hasn't announced when production will begin or when the series will air, but one thing's for sure—it's going to be worth the wait.
