Tennis enthusiast Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, recently opened up about a memorable moment from her past. Back in 2013, she was prohibited from attending the Wimbledon final, where Andy Murray clinched the men’s singles title for the first time. Can you imagine how tough that must have been for her?
In a candid conversation with BBC presenter Sue Barker for a documentary on tennis, the Duchess revealed just how much she wanted to be there. She was eight months pregnant with her first child, Prince George, at the time, and she practically begged her doctor to let her go. “I was desperate to attend the match between Murray and Novak Djokovic,” she admitted. Interestingly, she later apologized to Murray for not being there to witness his historic victory.

“I was heavily pregnant, but I really wanted to be there. After the match, I sent Andy a note apologizing for not being there,” she said with a chuckle. It’s amazing how much the Duchess values her connection to the sport and its community.
In her role as patron of the All England Lawn Tennis Club, Kate also shared some delightful family stories tied to tennis. If you’re a fan of the sport, these tales will make you smile.
Family Anecdotes That Will Make You Laugh
“Growing up, Wimbledon was always a big part of our lives,” Kate reminisced. “Roger Federer has always been my mom’s favorite player. I don’t think she’d mind me sharing that little secret. He probably knows it too!” She laughed, bringing a personal touch to her love for the sport.
But the fun doesn’t stop there. Kate also shared a funny story about her dad, Michael. During one of the tournaments, he accidentally mistook Tim Henman for Pete Sampras. “My dad is going to kill me for telling this, but we were walking past Tim Henman after watching Pete Sampras play. My dad said, ‘Hi Pete!’ I was so embarrassed,” she confessed.
