It’s hard to believe Joaquin has come so far since his early school days. A few months ago, Kelly shared a hilarious story about an incident from Joaquin’s younger years. Back when he was in elementary school, he accidentally brought a rather inappropriate book to class. It turns out Joaquin had chosen Stephen Colbert’s children’s book, I Am a Pole (And So Can You!), for the teacher to read to the class. The book, as you might imagine, revolves around a stripper pole. Now, that’s some creative reading material for a nine-year-old class!
When Joaquin brought the book home and told his mom that the teacher wouldn’t finish reading it aloud, Kelly later recounted the teacher’s reaction. She said, “I’m not sure if you had read this first.” The teacher added, “It’s a really funny book. I really tried to stick with it. But at a certain point, certain things aren’t appropriate for nine-year-olds.” Classic! This story is one that Kelly and Mark will no doubt cherish forever.

Kelly will never forget this moment in parenting history. During an appearance on The Late Show, she admitted, “This is still the greatest school memory we have. Nowadays, parents are so careful, and they’re so good at parenting, but I became that mom.” And let’s be honest, we all love a good parenting fail story. It’s relatable, funny, and reminds us that we’re all just doing our best.
