Rob Lowe Opens Up About Communicating with Spirits During ‘The Lowe Files’
Hey there, folks! Hollywood heartthrob Rob Lowe has been up to something truly fascinating. While filming his latest show, The Lowe Files, alongside his sons Matthew and John Owen, he claims to have had a ghostly encounter. The series, which follows Rob and his boys as they crisscross the United States in search of unsolved mysteries, has taken an unexpected turn into the supernatural realm.
Rob, now 53, shared this eerie experience during a recent appearance at the Television Critics Association’s press tour. A curious journalist asked the The West Wing star if he had managed to speak with spirits during the filming of the series. Guess what? Rob didn’t hesitate to say, “Yes!”

The Ovilus Device: A Gateway to the Other Side?
So, how did Rob Lowe manage to chat with a ghost? Apparently, it was all thanks to the Ovilus—a device believed to translate spirit communication into understandable words. Rob admitted, “Yeah—it was through the Ovilus. I hadn’t been able to do this before, but this gadget supposedly allows spirits to talk through it. Now, don’t ask me how or the science behind it because, honestly, I have no clue.”
But here’s the kicker: Rob’s son, John Owen, remains skeptical. He thinks the device might just be programmed to spit out random words. Yet, Rob counters, “How does it know the right words to say?” It’s a question that leaves even seasoned skeptics pondering.

Was It Really a Ghost? Or Just a Fluke?
Rob Lowe revealed that the Ovilus mentioned the name of a deceased woman who was murdered at the location they were investigating. “It said the exact name of the woman who was killed there,” Rob recounted. “You be the judge. I don’t want to come across as some kind of nutcase. And I definitely don’t want this to be the career-ending story!” He then quipped, “Too late?” Rob’s humor adds a lighthearted touch to what could otherwise be an intense topic.
‘Anthony Bourdain Meets Scooby-Doo’
Describing the show, Rob likened it to “Anthony Bourdain in a blender with Scooby-Doo.” While it’s unclear whether Rob and his sons managed to solve any mysteries, Rob emphasizes the importance of the journey itself. “We aim to solve them, but if we don’t, the real point is about a father and his sons creating lifelong memories together.”
For Rob, the series is as much about bonding with his sons as it is about unraveling mysteries. “It’s about the road trips, the laughs, the stories, and the connections we make along the way,” he explained. Who wouldn’t want to join the Lowes on their adventures?
