It seems like babies might be on the horizon for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. Since their wedding on May 19, speculation has been swirling about the couple starting a family. Now, Meghan’s dad, Thomas Markle, has chimed in with some interesting insights. In a recent chat with Good Morning Britain, Thomas, who wasn't present at the wedding, revealed that Meghan has always dreamed of becoming a mother. He said, “She’s wanted children for a long time now.”
In this interview, Thomas opened up about his thoughts on when Harry and Meghan might start a family. Even though he missed the wedding, he’s clearly keeping an eye on what’s happening with his daughter. He shared, “When she met Harry, she talked about how much she loved him, so there has to be a little baby-making in their future. I don’t see a stork flying around just yet, but I’m sure it’ll happen sooner or later.”
Meghan's Dream of Motherhood
This isn’t the first time someone close to Meghan has hinted at her desire to become a mom. Back in 2016, Meghan’s former friend and agent, Gina Nelthorpe-Cowne, discussed this topic in the documentary Harry and Meghan: A Love Story. Gina recalled a conversation they had in the Cayman Islands right around the time Meghan met Harry. She said, “She told me, ‘I would absolutely love to have children, and I can’t wait to be a mother.’” It’s clear that motherhood has been a dream Meghan has held close to her heart for quite some time.

And guess what? Harry seems just as eager to start a family. Royal expert Katie Nicholl, who authored Harry: Life, Loss, and Love, shared some insights before the wedding. She said, “My sources are saying that Prince Harry is very keen to start a family pretty soon after the royal wedding. He’s made no secret about wanting children.” So, it looks like both Meghan and Harry are on the same page when it comes to expanding their family.
During their first official interview after announcing their engagement, Meghan and Harry gave fans a glimpse into their plans for the future. In this BBC interview, reporter Mishal Husain playfully asked, “Children?” The couple's reaction was priceless, with both of them breaking into wide smiles. Harry joked, “Not currently, no,” but then became more serious. He said, “No, of course, you know, I think one step at a time. Hopefully, we’ll start a family in the near future.”
Harry’s Vision for Parenthood
Harry has always been open about his desire to have kids. He’s even spoken fondly of his bond with his nephew, Prince George, and niece, Princess Charlotte. He once said, “The reason I’m now fifth in line for the throne is because of my nephew and niece, and I could never wish them away. They are the most amazing things ever.” Harry is determined to give his future children a relatively normal life, using their royal status for good. He explained, “We don’t want to be just a bunch of celebrities but instead use our role for positive change.”
