Three years after her dreamy Venetian wedding, Amal Clooney’s breathtaking Oscar de la Renta wedding dress is now on full display as part of a major retrospective celebrating the late designer's incredible legacy. This iconic gown was the last piece the legendary fashion designer created before his passing in October 2014, making it a truly special piece of history.

A Diplomatic Effort to Showcase the Dress
André Leon Talley, in an interview with WWD, revealed the intricate process behind acquiring Amal Clooney's wedding dress for the exhibition. “We have the great Amal Clooney’s wedding dress, which is the last wedding dress that Oscar designed before he passed away,” Talley shared. “It’s on loan from Mrs. Clooney, and we were so eager to feature it. We initially hoped to include it in last year's retrospective in San Francisco, but Mrs. Clooney felt it was too soon after her September 2014 wedding to George Clooney.”
Talley described the negotiation to secure the gown as akin to “a diplomatic summit.” He added, “After the devastation of Hurricane Harvey, the people of Houston are ready for an optimistic celebration. They’re resilient and upbeat, and this exhibition is all about celebrating the beauty and legacy of this extraordinary man. It’s inspiring and truly wonderful.”
Amal's Connection with Oscar de la Renta
During one of her final dress fittings before the big day, Amal opened up about her admiration for the designer. Speaking to Vogue, she said, “Oscar is the man every woman dreams of hugging! George and I wanted our wedding to be romantic and elegant, and there’s no one more capable than Oscar to capture that mood in a gown. Meeting him made the entire design process even more magical, as he was so warm and such a true gentleman.”
