Sean Hayes Opens Up About Burst Appendix And Hospitalization

Sean Hayes Was Recently Hospitalized After His Appendix Burst

Hey there, friends! If you're like me, you love hearing stories of celebrities overcoming health challenges and coming back stronger. Well, Sean Hayes, everyone's favorite Jack McFarland from Will & Grace, recently had quite the medical adventure. During his appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on October 25, Sean shared his harrowing tale of being hospitalized after his appendix burst. "I was lying in bed one night, minding my own business, when this excruciating pain hit me out of nowhere. I knew something was seriously wrong, so I rushed to the emergency room," Sean recounted with his signature humor. He explained to Ellen that his situation turned out to be even more complicated than just a burst appendix. "Turns out, I had a rare condition where my small intestine also ruptured, poisoning my body. Thankfully, the doctors were on top of it and got me the care I needed," he added.

Now, here's where the story gets even more interesting. Sean described the surgery in a way that only he can. "So, they went in there, clipped off the bad part of my intestine, and stitched it back together. It was like they used a chip clip, you know, the kind you use for potato chips!" he joked. The procedure was a laparoscopic surgery, performed through his belly button, which left minimal scarring. But Sean didn't stop there. "They pump you full of so many drugs that you're basically floating on cloud nine. I was high as a kite, man!" he exclaimed. As he spoke, a photo of him in the hospital popped up on the screen, showing him in that infamous hospital gown.

  • Sean went on to describe the rehabilitation process, which included walking around the hospital floor to regain his strength. "So, there I am, trying to be charming, making jokes with the nurses, thinking they're just huge fans of my work. But guess what? My backside was sticking out the whole time, and I had no idea!" he confessed, laughing at the memory. It's moments like these that remind us of Sean's ability to find humor even in the toughest situations.

Returning to 'Will & Grace' in Tip-Top Shape

Thankfully, Sean's health is back on track, and he's diving headfirst into the first season of the Will & Grace reboot alongside his beloved co-stars Debra Messing, Eric McCormack, and Megan Mullally. "When a show ends, you never know if people still care about it. There's so much content out there now, it's overwhelming. But when we taped the first episode and heard the audience's energy and excitement, it was like, 'Wow, people really still love this show!'" Sean shared. He added, "The energy from the audience every single tape night reminds us just how special Will & Grace is, and we're thrilled to be bringing it back to NBC."
