On Tuesday, June 13, Gloria Estefan shared the devastating news of her mother's passing after a long battle with health issues. Gloria Fajardo, who was 88, left behind a legacy of love and strength that touched countless lives.
Gloria Estefan took to Instagram to honor her mother in a heartfelt post. She wrote, "Tonight at 8:19 pm, we lost my beloved mother, the one and only Gloria Fajardo. She passed peacefully, surrounded by her daughters, grandchildren, sons-in-law, niece, three loving caregivers, extended family, and her most trusted friends. Among them were the two beautiful ladies by her side in this picture, Carmen Corpion and Clara Bris. These incredible women were not just part of her life—they were by her side until her very last breath." Gloria, who is now 59, shared this touching tribute alongside a photo that captured the essence of her mother’s cherished relationships.

I know she chose the very moment, 8:19, because her beloved mother had died on 8/19 thirty-two years ago and she wanted to make sure that we got the message that she was with our beloved grandmother, Abuela Consuelo and my loving father, Jose Manuel. I will miss her every moment of every day and I thank her for being the incredible mother, woman and role model that she was to so many people. Thank you for your prayers and messages, and the love and concern that filled our hearts and accompanied us throughout this most difficult time. Please know that at every moment, I let her know about the love and light that was being sent to her and she appreciated and absorbed every beautiful sentiment. The timing of Gloria Fajardo's passing was deeply symbolic. Gloria Estefan explained, "I truly believe it was exactly how she would have wanted to leave this world—surrounded by the love and the people who meant the most to her. The fact that she passed at 8:19 holds special significance. Thirty-two years ago, her beloved mother, Abuela Consuelo, passed on August 19th. She wanted to make sure we understood that she was now with her grandmother and my loving father, Jose Manuel." This moment of clarity brought a sense of peace to her family, knowing that Gloria Fajardo was reunited with those she loved most.
Gloria went on to express her gratitude for her mother’s role in her life and the lives of so many others. "I will miss her every single moment of every single day. I’m endlessly thankful for the incredible mother, woman, and role model she was to so many people. Thank you for your prayers and messages. Your love and concern filled our hearts during this incredibly difficult time," she said. Gloria’s mother was especially close to her daughter, Emily, who is 22. Emily often shared videos of herself and her grandmother rapping together, as well as heartfelt messages about their bond.

In her final words, Gloria expressed her deep appreciation for the outpouring of love and support from fans around the world. "Please know that I made sure to let her know about every message of love and light sent her way, and she truly appreciated and absorbed each one. Thank you for holding us in your hearts and for walking this journey with us," she concluded. As a result of this loss, Gloria has understandably canceled her July concert in California, giving her the time she needs to grieve and honor her mother’s memory.
