Life can be complicated, especially when you're part of the British royal family. Prince Charles found himself in a challenging situation after his divorce from Princess Diana. Not only did it change the public perception of him, but it also affected his relationship with his sons, Prince William and Prince Harry. As they grew up, it wasn’t always smooth sailing for Charles when it came to connecting with his boys.
In particular, Charles and Harry had a rocky start. According to a source who spoke exclusively to Closer Weekly, Harry was always closer to his mom, Princess Diana. “Harry was always a mommy’s boy,” the insider explained. “He never developed a strong bond with Charles.” Looking back, Charles regrets not being more present in Harry's life. If given the chance, he’d do things differently, wishing he had spent more quality time with his son.

Turning Points: A New Chapter with Meghan Markle
Fast forward a few years, and things have changed for Charles and Harry. The wedding of Harry and Meghan Markle marked a pivotal moment in their relationship. Charles showed immense support and love for the couple, and Harry deeply appreciated his father’s role in the special day. “The wedding was a real turning point. Charles showed so much love towards Harry and Meghan, and I think Harry will be eternally grateful to his papa for stepping in and giving Meghan’s hand in marriage. The bond between them is very close,” royal reporter Katie Nicholl told Vanity Fair.

Meghan, from the beginning, has made an effort to strengthen her relationship with Charles. “Meghan’s first priority was winning over her future father-in-law,” a royal source revealed. “At first, Harry couldn’t believe she was going to such lengths, but the more time they spent together, the more Harry realized it was time to let go of past grievances. Harry was deeply touched by how welcoming Charles was to Meghan. Though confident, Meghan must have found adapting to royal life incredibly intimidating. Charles played a significant role in making her feel at home.”
Family Matters: A Focus on the Future
With Meghan and Harry expecting their first child, their desire for Charles to be more involved in their family life has grown. In the recent documentary, Prince, Son & Heir: Charles at 70, Harry echoed his brother William's sentiment that their dad “needs to slow down” and spend more time with his grandchildren.

Harry shared some personal insights about his father’s work ethic in the documentary. “This is a man who has dinner ridiculously late at night, and then goes to his desk later that night and will fall asleep on his notes to the point where he’ll wake up with a piece of paper stuck to his face,” Harry revealed. “The man never stops. When we were kids, there were bags and bags and bags of work that the office just sent to him. We could barely even get to his desk to say goodnight to him.” As Charles approaches his 70s, there’s hope that his bond with Harry will only grow stronger with the arrival of his fourth grandchild.
